Three Students Killed in University of Virginia Shooting Identified

The three people killed in the University of Virginia shooting late Sunday night have been identified.

In a Monday press briefing, University President Jim Ryan confirmed the passing of Lavel Davis Jr., D’Sean Perry, and Devin Chandler, all of whom played for the University of Virginia football team.

Two additional victims were also injured in the shooting. However, their identities have not yet been released.

The suspected shooter, Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., a former member of the school’s football team, was taken into custody Monday morning just before 11 a.m. University of Virginia Police Chief Timothy Longo said Jones is expected to be charged with three counts of second-degree murder and three counts of using a handgun in the alleged commission of a felony.

“This is a sad, shocking and tragic day for our UVA community,” Ryan said at a press briefing Monday.

The shooting reportedly unfolded on a school bus full of students returning from a field trip Sunday night. Gunfire was initially reported at a parking garage near the school’s drama building around 10:30 p.m. The school immediately issued a shelter-in-place, which was lifted around 10:30 a.m. Monday.
