Mase gets honored with his own day in his hometown.
On Tuesday, the 47-year-old hitmaker received a special honor as New York Council member Kevin C. Riley announced January 24th as “Mase Day” in Harlem.
The ceremony took place in front of Harlem’s legendary Apollo Theater. In addition, the former Bad Boy rapper was presented with a plaque and a proclamation that highlights Mase’s “outstanding achievements and enduring contributions” throughout his career.
Mase received his accolades with his wife and two sons by his side.
“I want to thank all of you for coming out here today,” Mase began his speech. “But most of all, I want to say this because this really matters in our community: a win only feels great when you win with family.”
He continued, “Today, I have my whole family here. My wife of 22 years and a bunch of people in that crowd, a bunch of great artists..Thank you, and thank you Harlem for making me great. Blessings and most of all, my pastor is here. This is the guy that prayed for me when I left hip hop. So y’all all wanna know who changed me? This is the guy that changed me.”
Mase has been vocal about his love for his hometown since he started his rapping career in the 90’s. In 1997, the rapper released his debuts album “Harlem World” and gave the neighborhood its flowers with songs like “24 Hrs to Live.”
