Showtime Series ‘The First Lady’ Canceled After One Season

[ad_1]

The Showtime series “The First Lady” has been canceled after just one season.

Six weeks after the season finale, the anthology series “The First Lady” will reportedly not be returning for a second season. In a 10-episode first season, Viola Davis, Michelle Pfeiffer and Gillian Anderson came together to tell the stories of the women next to history’s most influential presidents: Michelle Obama, Betty Ford and Eleanor Roosevelt.

In a comment about the series cancellation, Variety’s chief television critic wrote that “squeezing their stories together doesn’t just make for confusing television, but does them all a disservice in the process,” Variety reports.

In a statement to Variety, Showtime confirmed the show was coming to an end.

“We would like to applaud the artistry and commitment of our showrunner Cathy Schulman, director Susanne Bier, their fellow executive producers, our amazing cast, led by executive producer Viola Davis, Michelle Pfeiffer and Gillian Anderson, and our studio partner Lionsgate for their dedicated work in telling the unique stories of three remarkable leaders,” wrote a spokesperson for Variety, the media outlet reports.
