Joe Biden Declares “The Pandemic is Over”

After three years, President Joe Biden officially announced the end of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The pandemic is over,” Biden said in a 60 Minutes interview on Sunday.

“We still have a problem with COVID,” the president continued. “We’re still doing a lot of work on it. But the pandemic is over.”

During a visit to the first Detroit Auto Show in three years, Biden told NBC News Scott Pelley, “If you notice, no one’s wearing masks. Everybody seems to be in pretty good shape. And so I think it’s changing, and this is a perfect example.”

In the United States, the coronavirus claimed more than 1 million deaths, not to mention the adverse social and economic effects it had worldwide.

NBC News said last week that the World Health Organization reported a historic low for worldwide COVID-related deaths, while the U.S. reported few changes in the same weeks. The U.S recorded a weekly average of 478 deaths a day, which was much higher than its 258 daily death average in June. However, new cases declined by 14%, recording less than 73,000 cases daily.

“We have never been in a better position to end the pandemic,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Wednesday. “We are not there yet, but the end is in sight.”
