HBCU Apologizes For Recruiting White Football Player Who Used N-Word

After Marcus Stokes, a white football player, was caught on camera saying the N-word in a song, he lost his scholarship at the University of Florida.

After losing his scholarship, HBCU Albany State University offered him a position on the team.  Now Head Football Coach Quinn Gray Sr. is rescinding his offer from Stokes after facing much backlash.

“Please know that my decision to speak with a student that did not meet your expectations was unacceptable,” he continued. “I only wanted the best for our team, athletes, and institution when I invited the student to visit ASU…I was trying to help a student get back in competition, and in my haste, I did not consider the impact the decision would have on all of you…My actions caused you to question my commitment to our institution and our ancestors.  As the consequences go, I hope to find a way back into the Ramily,” Gray released a statement.

Gray’s decision came after the Gators withdrew Stokes’ scholarship following a video circulating of Stokes using the n-word in November.

The Head Football Coach was reprimanded by the school president Marion Ross Fedrick for extending an offer to Stokes, according to HBCU Gameday.

According to his Twitter, Stokes was regarded as a four-star recruit who received offers from Alabama A&M University and West Florida.
