Florida Man Who Believed He Was Half-Dog Avoids Prison Time After Courts Accept His Insanity Plea After He Killed a Couple Then Chewed on Man’s Face

Austin Harrouff, a 25-year-old Florida resident who killed a couple in 2016, will not go to prison after the court accepts his insanity plea.

Six years ago, the Florida State University student was arrested for the murders of John Stevens, 59, and Michelle Mishcon, 53.

The case will no longer be going to trial since Harrouff, 19 at the time of the attack, pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and various other charges.

As of now, he is being held at a mental health facility nearby until doctors and the judge decide he no longer poses a threat to the community.  He had been facing life in prison for the killings and chewing on one of his victims’ faces.

“I hate you.  I hate you all.  I hate what you did,” said Cindy Mischon, sister of Michelle, during testimony.  “I really think you deserve to die, Austin.  Your family deserves to suffer the way my family suffered.  And sadly, I don’t think anyone in here is gonna suffer how Michelle and John did.”

According to a mental health report, Harrouff suffered an acute psychotic episode at the time of the attack.

Harrouff claimed he was fleeing a demon-like figure he called “Daniel” and howling because he believed he was “half dog.”

It’s been reported that it’s “highly unlikely” he would be released from the mental facility.
