‘Bodega Bro’ Loses Job For TikTok Video Mocking NYC Bodegas [Video]

One thing New Yorkers don’t play about is their bodegas. A midwestern man who recently relocated to the city learned that lesson the hard way after losing his job for posting a TikTok mocking the beloved corner stores.

Griffin Green, dubbed “Bodega Bro,” claimed that he had just moved to the city for a tech job and had difficulty finding a grocery store. In the video, he explains that putting “grocery store” into Apple Maps has only resulted in bodegas.

“OK, so I just moved to New York, and I’m going to go grocery shopping, and so I type in like, ‘grocery stores,’ on my Apple Maps, and every f*ckin’ one I go to … they’re like this sh*t,” the 22-year-old says before panning to two corner stores. “Like bro, that’s not a grocery store. Like, I’m trying to get, like eggs, yogurt, like cheese—sh*t like that.”

Green laments that he’s been to about five stores before and doesn’t know what he’s going to eat for dinner.

“Like, where are the Krogers and, like, the Whole Foods at? I’m about to eat f*ckin’ cereal and ramen for dinner, like what the f*ck?” he asks the camera.

Green quickly faced backlash from Twitter users who felt he was mocking food deserts that exist in NYC. People promptly began posting other controversial videos, with one of Green declaring he’s “like the only white dude” in a gym and another taken during Pride seemingly mocking gay people.

Users quickly found that Green was employed by software company Outreach, which confirmed via a tweet that he was no longer employed with the company. Reason reports that Green wasn’t terminated just for his. It was also for posting his confidential offer letter.

Green is now out of work and on the hook for a one-year lease in NYC. He is currently seeking employment and asking the public for donations to help pay his expenses.
